Students working for NEAR carry out real-life industry project research on a continuing basis during their enrollment with ERAU graduate programs such as: Software Engineering, Business, Human Factors, and Aeronautical Science. While some of the graduate students participate in NEAR project work, others decide to perform research for their thesis and class work under the supervision of professionals with years of experience in aviation.
Graduate students are part of every NEAR project, including:
ATC Real-Time Software Simulations
NEAR continuously attempts to include some of the project work for our real-time simulation in the Masters of Software Engineering degree. Internally, a number of graduate students currently work on various modules for NEAR's R-T Distributed Network Simulator.
TAAM Fast-Time simulations
Graduate students are the primary work force for our TAAM operations. This provides the students with tremendous experience in Fast-Time simulation work. ERAU is also the primary educator for TAAM personnel in the US and NEAR graduate students are continuously placed within TAAM departments in consulting companies and airlines across the US. A number of graduate students have written their graduate thesis on TAAM simulation work.
Human Factors
Human Factors graduate students are involved in many aspects of NEAR including Real-Time Simulation Setup and analysis and work on the PUMA metrics tool. Examples of graduate thesis written by NEAR graduate students are:
Data Mining and Processing:
Graduate and undergraduate students are frequently employed to work on gathering, extracting, processing and storing vast amounts of air traffic and weather information.
