NEAR has completed a contract to provide Technical Assistance to the Chilean MOP/DAP for the assessment of future requirements for airports in the Central Zone of Chile (around Santiago).
The project involved:
- Collation of economic, airport, air traffic and climatological data from the previous 10 years
- Use of accepted international performance measures to assess the airports in the Central Zone
- A functional assessment of the airports in the Central Zone: NEAR used Data Envelopment Analysis metrics.
- Propose and Assess system alternatives to make good any deficiencies identified in the functional assessment
- Assessed the performance of the Central Zone airspace and proposed methods of optimizing the airspace to make best use of airport facilities. This included transition to space based and dependent surveillance systems
- Assessed the economic and financial feasibility of proposed airport and airspace changes
- Identify U.S. companies that have the capacity and capability to support the airport infrastructure plan
- Created an implementation plan for the proposed airport and airspace upgrades including financial arrangements.
- Provided formal reports at 5 milestones in the projects lifespan.
